The Listless Shoe

May 15, 2007

A listless shoe, right in the middle of a bustling street. There are some who kick it and laugh as they walk by, there are some who shrink away from it. And then there are those who just stand in a corner and watch.

The listless shoe.

I am trying to figure out the story behind it. Who’s feet did it protect from blisters? Or did it protect any feet at all? Did it bite? Did it make a clippity clop sound? Did it see only the grime covered streets that it’s abandoned in now or were there better days?

I imagine a pair of caring hands wiping it with a cloth before putting some black shoe polish. I imagine a closet where the shoes would rest after a weary day. I imagine frequent visits to the cobbler and perhaps also to social gatherings… I wonder if some one misses it…

The listless shoe… in the middle of a bustling street.
